English Department

All students will take Foundations of Language and Literature in 9th grade and Contemporary Literature in 10 the grade. These courses build the fundamental knowledge and skill students need to understand themselves, others, and how to create a just and peaceful world. Through 11th and 12th grade Seminar Electives, students continue and deepen their study of literature, argument, rhetoric, and composition in preparation for college, career, and lifelong learning. Students are required to take English 9 and English 10. Juniors and Seniors must choose between an AP course or Seminar Electives to meet the graduation requirement. The Electives explore a wide range of literary genres and periods and multiple perspectives on our shared humanity as well as offer opportunities for self-expression and inquiry.
